Sharing Sustenance: invite someone to Cursillo!

A smiling person sits in front of a banner embroidered with a cross surrounded by water and flame in rainbow colours, and text 'Ely Cursillo'

What is it?

A very simple conversation! In my experience (having been on both sides of it) it usually begins with something like, 'Have you heard of Cursillo?'

Piety, study, or action?

Action! As our spiritual director Stephen Bowring said in his talk at our Refugio earlier this month, inviting a fellow Christian to Cursillo is textbook apostolic action - it's an invitation to a deeper relationship with Jesus through the exercise of our minds and souls.

Where did you find it?

I should say, them. At church, often after some small talk over coffee. Some people I've asked to Cursillo have been friends; some were more like acquaintances.

Why was it useful for you?

Cursillo has been a hugely positive influence in my spiritual life, opening it up so that the whole of my existence and identity can be transformed, not just the limited parts I thought of as appropriate to bring to church with me. It's a joy to share that with people who I know are on a similar journey.

So far only one person I've asked has attended a Cursillo weekend, but, as Stephen says, many people won't say yes the first time someone asks - and it doesn't always have to be the same person asking them!

Kathleen, based on Rev Stephen Bowring's talk at the February Refugio. If you're interested in inviting someone to Cursillo but don't know where to start, take a look at the Sponsor Guidelines. You could suggest they look at the 'What Is Cursillo?' page.
